▶ Held Over Four Days, July 8–11… Twice as Long as Previous Years
Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, announced on June 17 that it will hold its major online discount event, “Prime Day,” from July 8 to 11 next month.
This year’s event will span four days, or 96 hours, doubling the duration of the two-day event held in previous years.
Amazon stated, “With the summer shopping event extending to four days for the first time, Prime members will have twice as much time to shop millions of items.”
Launched in 2015 and marking its 11th year, Prime Day targets members who pay an annual fee of $139.
Amazon added that this year’s event will introduce “Today’s Big Deals,” a new feature offering the most exciting themed discounts each day.
This year’s Prime Day coincides with President Donald Trump’s imposition of tariffs on imports from major trading partners, including China. Trump announced a unilateral reciprocal tariff rate in addition to baseline tariffs, with implementation deferred until July 8 as negotiations with other countries continue. The event will begin on July 8, the same day the U.S. government’s negotiations with other nations are set to conclude.
In April, Amazon considered displaying the additional costs from tariffs on some product prices but scrapped the plan after public criticism from the White House.
Prime Day is one of Amazon’s biggest sales events of the year. Last year’s two-day event is estimated to have generated $14.2 billion (19.4 trillion KRW) in sales, an 11% increase from $12.7 billion in 2023.
