A major remodeling project has officially begun at the former LA County Department of Mental Health headquarters, located at the intersection of 6th Street and Vermont Avenue in Koreatown. With a budget of $210 million, the revamped building is set to become the central hub for LA County government offices in Koreatown, housing several key departments after construction is completed.

According to a report submitted to the LA County Board of Supervisors in June, the remodeled building will accommodate the County’s Human Resources Department, Board of Supervisors’ Executive Office, Department of Public Social Services, Department of Children and Family Services, and Department of Public Health. The project marks the final phase of the Vermont Corridor redevelopment, which also includes the Department of Health Services' new headquarters and an affordable housing complex across the street.

The 12-story building, spanning 155,000 square feet, will undergo structural and aesthetic upgrades. The project will expand usable space to 88,340 square feet and add 2,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. Architectural firm Gensler designed the renovations, featuring a modern glass exterior overlaying the mid-20th-century structure. The Trammell Crow Company is leading the project development, while Snyder Langston serves as the general contractor.

Previously occupied by the LA County Department of Mental Health, the building’s tenants relocated in 2021 to a newly constructed 21-story office building just north of the site on Vermont Avenue.
